Stop. It is the law. Switch off the engine and put your hazard lights on.
Injuries first. Call 999 if anyone is hurt, trapped, or the road is dangerous or blocked.
Make the scene safe. Hi-vis on. Move yourself and others somewhere safe. Warning triangle only if safe - never on a motorway.
Never admit fault. Do not apologise or accept blame. Stick to the facts.
Exchange details - this is a legal requirement. Names, addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registrations and insurance details of everyone involved.
Take photos and video below. Vehicle positions before anything moves, damage to all vehicles, number plates, the road layout and signs, weather and road conditions.
Get witnesses. Names and phone numbers of anyone who saw it.
Police. Report within 24 hours (call 101) if anyone is injured and details were not exchanged, or the other driver failed to stop or refused details.
Hours & tachograph. Note your driving time and make a manual tachograph entry if your vehicle or card is affected.
Send this report before you leave the scene. It goes straight to Destino Freight.
